Saga is easily one of the most popular and critically-acclaimed comic book series to date. As one of Image Comics top products, the series has a faithful fellowships committed to the complex adventure they are on.

And that adventure is going to be put on hold.

NewsaRama is reporting that Saga creators Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples will be taking a break from the Image epic. Vaughan was quoted regarding the decision:

“After fifty-four issues and over 1,200 consecutive pages of sequential storytelling together, Fiona and I have decided to take an extended break before we eventually reunite with Saga #55. And unlike our usual three months of ‘Vacationanza’ between arcs, we plan to pause publication of this series for at least the next year.”

Vaughan went on:

“This obviously wasn’t a decision we took lightly, but Fiona and I feel a responsibility to keep making the very best comic we can, and we both agreed that he only way to eventually finish the epic saga we set out to tell was with this one significant… let’s call it… Intermission!”

This is most likely not the news readers wanted to hear. Yet, given the complexity and lengthy arc featured in the series, it’s understandable why Vaughan and Staples need a break. If anything, an “intermission” could lead to an even more exciting angle applied to the story.

Loyal readers will have to wait and see what this break produces.
