Hardware At E3
The gaming industry’s biggest show, The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3 is less than 2 weeks away. Starting Saturday, June 9th, the major studios will be unveiling their new games and franchises to millions of eager eyes, each trying their best to claim the title of “Best in Show”. The press conferences may be wrapping up Tuesday morning, but for many exhibitors and attendees, that’s when E3 truly begins.
The show floor will be open Tuesday through Thursday. We will, of course, be bringing you the latest news in video game software, but the industry that perhaps doesn’t always get the spotlight is the other half of your gaming experiences, hardware. Dozens of hardware manufacturers will be eager to unveil their new toys, coolest gadgets, and top-of-the-line gizmos. Here is a preview of some things we’ll be looking out for.
Razer Core X
Wish you could cram a GTX 1080 ti into your gaming laptop? Thanks to Razer, now you can. This is probably one of the coolest things that we might get our hands on during the show. External hardware acceleration is nothing new, but leave it to Razer to bring that concept to the gaming world. At a modest $299, the new Razor Core X is nothing extraordinary by itself. However, it enables you to bring desktop-class graphics performance to your portable gaming.
The Core X serves as an external shell for a desktop graphics card like the aforementioned 1080 ti, or perhaps a Radeon RX series. Whatever your flavor, you simply install the card of your choice into the Core X, then plug it into your laptop. The slight caveat is that it requires a Thunderbolt 3 laptop, which makes sense considering the throughput required for an endeavor like this. However, this allows you the freedom to invest in a more portable everyday laptop for the day, and still maintain your “hardcore gamer cred” at night.
The new X model brings advanced future proofing, allowing you greater access to the internals and guaranteed compatibility with future cards. It also features better airflow compared to past models, not to mention a sleeker, more simplistic aluminum design. It’s also a very viable and compelling solution for any of the new Thunderbolt 3 Apple MacBook Pros.
Noblechairs
If you are used to long, caffeine-enhanced gaming sessions, there’s a good chance you know exactly what it can do to your back. Hopefully, you’ve already invested in ergonomic seating. If not, you might want to get familiar with Noblechairs. They are the Mercedes-Benz of gaming chairs, quite literally. Based out of Berlin, they bring a heightened sense of luxury and function normally reserved for high-end German-engineered automobiles.
You will definitely get your money’s worth here if you have the money to burn. Noblechairs already has one of the widest varieties of gaming chairs available, but they will be in full force during E3 to show off their new hotness. We have a special invitation to check out the new product line, so we’ll be sure to report back with the details.
Ironova Ankkoro
Makers of a new smart band, the device aims to capture biometric data as you game. Using fancy software, it will then paint a picture of your emotional state and focus during your sessions. Ironova observes gaming as a part of everyday life, like going to the gym, and strives to bring you a better understanding of yourself while you play. If you’re into biometrics, Ankkoro is aimed at gamers, so at the least, the data collected will make more sense from a gaming perspective.
SCUF Gaming
SCUF is the makers of the best competitive modified controllers in the market. With their new Vantage line of controllers, SCUF is taking their controllers to the next level. The new, fully-customizable controllers feature a modular design. It features 4 rear paddles and 2 new side buttons for even more custom mapping.
The controller also features their best trigger mods to date, with adjustable hair triggers, lengths, and more. One of the coolest features of the Vantage has is the addition of a touch bar at the bottom of the controller, giving you better access to volume and headset controls. The Vantage releases in August, with pre-orders, now live. SCUF will be at the show, so here’s to hoping they’ve got a prototype or two to play around with.
That’s just a taste of what we’ll be keeping our eyes out for during E3. If there is anything else that captures our interest, we’ll be live-tweeting during the show, so be sure to follow us there to stay up to date.
